At its meeting today (2007-04-24) in Frankfurt-am-Main, Germany, ISO/IEC JTC1/SC2/WG2 accepted the Tai Viet proposal "as is," and the Tai Viet script will be included in PDAM5 (Proposed Draft Amendment) for balloting.
Martin Hosken (UK) presented the proposal, authored by his colleague at SIL International, Jim Brase. Ngô Trung Việt (VN) spoke on behalf of TCVN, the Vietnam Standards & Quality Centre, in supporting the proposal.
It is expected that the balloting/approval process will conclude in about a year or so, at which time all five scripts used in Việt Nam -- Latin, Hán-Nôm (CJKV), Khmer, Chăm, and Tay -- will be available in Unicode and 10646.
